A dollhouse story: Mid-century Mom was wondering how to move her 4 year old son from his nursery, where he slept in a toddler bed, to a new space in their little bungalow, leaving the nursery for the new little one coming along in a few months. Their budget was tight, so she visited a number of thrift stores, looking for furniture. Finally, she had a group of old but sturdy, odd mix-and-match pieces that would last for years, and just needed to be matched up together with paint and a few accessories.

Knowing her boy loves airplanes, rocket ships, helicopters, and outer space, she found some cute designs in magazines and started sketching what to paint. She found some green paint on sale, his favorite color. He’s very attracted to metal objects, so she found some metallic paint to brush on to make the green a little shiny. Then she attempted to add airplanes, a rocket, a UFO, and a helicopter on different parts of the set.

Finally, she found a few accessories at yard sales: some rugs, kids’ books, and a big airplane that has Santa climbing up a ladder, to hang from the ceiling. So many pieces, the only place for it all to fit may be the attic! Now to fix it all up into a fun kid space he can call his own.
