Major Hutchens went to Vietnam as chaplain with the 70th Engineer Battalion and then was transferred to the combat tested 173rd Airborne Brigade. The first chaplain to be wounded in Vietnam, Major Hutchens is holder of the Bronze Star medal for heroism and the Purple Heart. He is now assigned to the 6th Special Forces Group (the Green Berets) at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
