These jeans began as a men’s pair of relaxed fit Lee jeans 40” x 32”
I first removed the bottom hem which was about 1/2” and I have sewn a zigzag stitch about an inch up. The hem is raw to give a frayed look -if they are too long they can easily be cut and just let the hem gray again
I then cut open the side seams to begin working on the patching and appliqué of the jeans. I used lots of vintage items I have collected in this composition. The birds came from a table runner and I thought they were just so beautiful. The blue flower appliqués came from a table cloth I found at an estate sale. Then there are small embroidery pieces that adorned napkins and doilies that I added as well. Oh the celebrations these scraps probably lived through-the stories that could be told. I think of these things as I am creating. That the beautiful thing about upcyclying-creating that new piece to live a new story.
After all the patching and appliqué was finished I then sewed the side seams with the raw edges out to create a frayed seam this also made the jeans smaller. They are at about a 36” waist and about 44” hips. I have a 29”-30” waist and I can wear them loosely belted and comfortable at my natural waist and at my lower waist. I am also adding another button so the waist can be smaller. They are more a boyfriend Jean-loose and comfy-with all the great things men’s jeans offer like Big, deep pockets!
Feel free to ask any questions I haven’t answered here-I want to help make your purchase as easy and joyful as possible. I hope you love these as much as the love I put in them. People will definitely ask you where you got them. They are One of a Kind. Although I may make similar items, no two things will ever be exactly the same.
