Triple Bypass 3BP v2 Modded Sega Genesis 1 VA 6.5 NTSC US. Console Only. All work done by me:
-
All capacitors replaced with long lasting polymer capacitors that will not leak
made by KEMET. (https://forums.nesdev.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2023)
- Triple Bypass v2 for Excellent RGB Signal and Crystal Clear Stereo Audio (https://consolemods.org/wiki/Genesis:Triple_Bypass_Mod)
- Composite video restored with cleaner RGB signals from triple bypass board. Looks great on a CRT!
- 9-pin DIN AV connector - same as Genesis 2 - gives Stereo Audio, RGBS and Composite output. YOU MUST HAVE GENESIS 2 CABLES!
-
Reset switch replaced with a clicky switch that will greatly outlast the original switch.
- Case and internals cleaned
YOU MUST GET GENESIS 2 CABLES! NOT GENESIS 1! The 9-pin DIN makes getting AV from the modded console easier with Genesis Model 2 Cables. You can just use composite cables for a very clean composite output!
This does not come with cables and converters for getting RGB output, you will need to get those
separately. See below for help getting that going.
I recommend one of the following setups (from easiest to most complex):
-
Rad2x Cable for your system (gives you HDMI output in a single cable). (https://www.retrogamingcables.co.uk/RAD2X-CABLES)
-
Component Cable for your system (https://www.hdretrovision.com/)
+ Upscaler (https://www.retrorgb.com/upscalers.html). (lets you use the upscaler for multiple systems and has
more options)
-
RGB SCART cable (https://stoneagegamer.com/search-magic.html?query=scart+cable)
+ RGB SCART to Component Converter (https://www.retrorgb.com/converters.html) + Upscaler (https://www.retrorgb.com/upscalers.html). (The most versatile option as you
can use this setup with any system and a SCART cable)
Here are the upscalers I recommend (if you're not going to use a Rad2x cable and need an upscaler):
-
RetroTinx 2x/2x-Pro/5x/4k (https://www.retrotink.com/shop)
-
Open Source Scan Converter (OSSC) (https://stoneagegamer.com/ossc-pro-open-source-scan-converter.html)
-
RetroScaler2x (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=retroscaler+2x) (I don't really recommend this unless the others are unavailable or you are on a
tight budget because it is a bit janky and is of questionable origin)
And the RGB to Component converters (if you're going to use SCART instead of a component cable for
your system):
-
RetroTink RGB2COMP (https://www.retrotink.com/product-page/rgb2comp)
-
Shinybow SB-2840 SCART-RGB to Component (https://www.ani-av.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=220)
-
Bitfunx RGBS/VGA to YPBPR (https://www.ebay.com/itm/326265271747)
In the photos I am using an RGB SCART cable from AliExpress, connected to a Bitfunx RGBS to YPBPR box,
and then to a RetroScaler2x which outputs HDMI (like all of the scalers do). This setup is probably the lowest
quality of the setups, and I don't recommend it, but it gets the job done as far as getting RGB output to a modern
display.
The console has been tested and verified working and ready for
gaming. See pictures for details on appearance, condition, and proof of
work.
