Listing for your consideration one Trench Art Piece,
Vietnam Era Style, "SHORT TIMERS STICK"
Or swagger stick, these were made extremely popular by the men serving in the Vietnam war. It was customary for a soldier that had less than thirty days before completing his tour of duty to assemble one with military components, usually fifty caliber rounds and, in some cases, primers from spent artillery shells.
It was with considerable pride that we carried it amongst the troops that still had a long time to serve in country; a status symbol informing the rest of your fellow GI's that you were "Short" and getting ready to go back to the world.
This piece is in good condition. It does require someone to get out the old can of "Brasso" metal polish and restore some of the luster. There are some light rush spots.
Approximate overall length: 16.5" inches
This piece is a one-of-a-kind item, listed as trench art, since it was hand made by a Veteran that served in Vietnam 1967/1968.
The name engraved on the stick was William Fink, service number 566288 USMC.
He was a staff sergeant at the time.
