1985 is a seminal year in Science Fiction History. It was the last year the SFBC stopped using gutter codes consistently. The internet officially launched with the creation of the IDNS. First home video game system released. Ender's Game,The Handmaid's Tale, Carl Sagan's Contack, Footfall and The Postman are a few high spots of the year.
Locus Magazine went all electronic in 1997, launching as a fanzine in the late sixties in support of a Science Fiction Convention in Boston in 1971. They still monitor the industry and report upon it, the Locus award is well known.
