Original Reynall & Hitchcock printed, bound sheets, as credited on the title and copyright pages, the cloth binding however, states "Burt" to the lower spine.

Reynal & Hitchcock, as was occasional custom of the times, probably sold it's excess bound sheets and dust jackets to another publisher, who bound it in this green linen.

The original Reynal & Hitchcock cloth was blue.

 George Carter Underhill was a very successful career lawyer, and bachelor, who decided to rebel from a lonely routine during his forty-something years.

He had avoided marrying in his youth in compliance of his family's wishes, and now sought some fun and female companionship. He found romance and love in this heartwarming story by the prolific and popular town-and-country author best remembered for her beloved and recurring character Mrs. Meigs.
