About the item:

This original art painting by comics artist JK Woodward is from IDW’s adaptation of Harlan Ellison's “City on the Edge of Forever.”  The story, adapted from the original teleplay as written by Ellison (before Gene Roddenberry and crew made numerous changes to the story to ultimately produce the Star Trek episode of the same name) is, despite most of the central elements remaining the same, a good bit different and more detailed than the Television episode.  Indeed, while many regard “The City on the Edge of Forever” as the best of all of the original Star Trek episodes (winning the 1968 Hugo Award for best dramatic presentation), the IDW comic series is the first time it has been adapted to a visual medium as Ellison originally intended.  Published by IDW in 2014 in a five issue limited series, this page is from issue #1 and features Kirk, Spock, Dr. McCoy, and Yeoman Janice Rand.  Of note, this is the only page in the entire five issues that includes Dr. McCoy (who did not, unlike portrayed in the Television episode, go back time).  Ellison's original script featured a crewman gone bad (something Gene Roddenberry did not approve of) who corrupted the timeline.  McCoy did not figure into the story at all.  But Woodward worked this homage to the Television episode into the story so that McCoy would at least have a non-speaking cameo in the comic adaptation.

The page measures 18 by 24 inches (the artwork itself takes up 12 1/2 by 19 1/2 inches).  In excellent condition, it will be shipped with the utmost care. The first image is a composite made from three separate scans of the page (so it's a little off) but it gives you a clearer image than the photo as well as the page with text as it appeared in the published comic and the cover to the comic.  The second is just the composite.  The third image is a photo of the original art page (which does not do it justice).  The forth and fifth are images of the page, with text, as it appears in the comic book and the cover to the issue.  Please note, the comic book itself is shown for reference only- the comic is not included in with the listing - the listing is for the original artwork only.
