This dish is said to have originated in Oita Prefecture, Japan in the 1940s.
Karaage is when ingredients are lightly coated with flour or potato starch and
deep-fried in hot oil without any batter.
It differs from fried chicken in that the chicken is seasoned with soy sauce.
It is a type of deep-fried food.
Karaage is also considered a type of prepared food, and can be eaten in a variety of situations,
such as home cooking, ready-made meals, eating out, and in bento lunches.
