The envelope has the phrases "Bicentennial Era", "The Seafaring Tradition" and a sailing ship on the front; there is also an embossed mariner's compass in the upper right corner. A 3-cent stamp honors American historian Francis Parkman. The back of the envelope has a small area with brown discoloration.
The envelope has a pre-gummed back flap. Weight of the envelope is less than one ounce.
