The Venerable Vairocana (Vai-ro-chan-a) Buddha
Vairocana is known as the universal Buddha from whom all buddhas emanate. He is hailed as the source of enlightenment who resides free from all causes and conditions.
Vairocana is also known as The Primordial Buddha, and is described as the buddha who has no back or front; he is omniscient (all-knowing) and omnipresent (all-pervading). So Vairocana is often personified as a meditating with four faces, simultaneously perceiving all directions.
He holds his symbol, the dharma wheel. He is also sometimes depicted with his hands in the dharmachakra mudra.
Vairocana is known as as the ground of being itself and the matrix from which all phenomena emerge.
Vairocana is seen as the universal form of the better-known Earthly Buddha, Sakyamuni.
Out of deep love and compassion, Vairocana Buddha is said to manifest as the material world itself--as well as human Buddhas and Boddhisattvas--as a training-ground to gradually guide and elevate all beings awakened consciousness, and to worlds beyond all suffering.
