Antique March 1916 four page letter and envelope, written from a man in Gum Ridge, Mississippi to a beau (or he hoped she would be a beau) in Crowville, Louisiana.  He describes a flood (that prevented him from writing earlier) that caused six feet of water in his house - likely the September 1915 New Orleans hurricane which caused flooding in that area of the River.  He states that everybody has moved away because of the high water.

A lovely old 4 page letter and envelope from 1916, written in beautiful script.  Letter was stamped and mailed in 1916 from the Gum Ridge Post Office in Jefferson Coumty, Mississippi.  Gum Ridge was a town on the Mississippi River, until the river changed course in 1884, leaving Gum Ridge to become a ghost town in the early 1900's.  Population was 29 by 1900.  The Post Office opened in 1875 and finally closed in 1922.

The envelope has wear, but very readable condition. Letter in very good condition with age darkening.
