2 Vintage OLD WHITTMORE Patent No 10 Cotton Carding Combs from Leicester Mass.  This is a nice set of cotton carding combs is still in good usable condition.  They are marked THE ONLY GENUINE OLD WHITTMORE PATENT No 10 COTTON.  They are made by L. S. WATSON & CO (1842-1898). Made in Leicester, Mass.  The bodies measure 10-3/8” x 4-3/8” with 4-5/8” long handles.  They are in goodcondition, so please look at the photos to see what you are buying. Both combs still have cotton in them

Amos Whittemore was granted a patent for a machine that made wool cards in 1797. Leicester was a textile center in the 19th century and several factories that made cards for textile machines, hand cards and wire for the cards were located there. L.S. Watson & Co. was the largest manufacturer of cards and was founded in 1842. After Lory Sprague Watson died in 1898, his son took over the business and it became L.S. Watson Manufacturing Co.
