• Eugène Fromentin (24 October 1820 – 27 August 1876) was a French painter and writer now better remembered for his writings. His first great success was produced at the Salon of 1847, by the Gorges de la Chiffa. He went on to produce other important artistic and literary works during his lifetime.
• The artist's most desirable works depict Orientalism and North African scene, but he also produced some paintings of the French countryside, the style and signature on this painting are consistent with a French scene titled "Barnyard" sold by Garth's Auction in 2010
