An early 1900s brass pendant light removed from a home in Asheville, NC. The light is all original including its Edison Arrow socket and heavy cut glass shade. The glass is SCA (sun colored amethyst), with a slight purple cast, the result of a reaction of the magnesium in the glass and long-term exposure to sunlight. The glass is frosted with a cut pattern and some crackling (see photos). A few wear dings on the glass as shown, but nothing we believe is detracting.
The socket is original and was disassembled, cleaned, contacts polished, and tested for working condition. We try to preserve original sockets as they are made of heavier brass, porcelain and other materials than the flimsy replacements available today. The fact that the socket is working after over 100 years is a testament to its quality.
As you see the light has a fair amount of patina and verdigris. The light was carefully cleaned and received a buffing with museum grade wax.
