professor of literature. She was the first female faculty member and
third woman hired as an instructor at
Illinois State Normal University.
Silas
Marner, a novel by George Eliot, was published in 1861. The story's title
character is a friendless weaver who cares only for his cache of gold.
He is ultimately redeemed through his love for Eppie, an abandoned
golden-haired baby girl, whom he discovers shortly after he is robbed
and rears as his child. THis book has notes scuffs and stains. It is an acceptable reading copy and still old enough to be a collector's low-grade piece.
