ABOUT PEARLS
Akoya Pearls
They are seawater-cultured pearls of Japanese origin along the southern coasts and are formed by Akoya oysters. Akoya pearls are characterized by their perfect round shape, rich luster in pink and silvery white, and a size ranging from 5.5 to 8.5mm in diameter. Among Akoya pearls, only white, golden cream, and silver gray are natural colors. All other colors are dyed.
South Sea White Pearls
South Sea cultured pearls are of exceptional quality, featuring a whitish, almost silver hue. Larger than the average pearl, the smoothness and roundness of these pearls are remarkable. They are among the rarest and most extraordinary pearls you'll encounter in jewelry. South Sea pearls originate from the white-lipped variety of the pinctada maxima oyster. This oyster is significantly larger than those that produce Akoya and Freshwater pearls, resulting in a much larger pearl. Due to the rarity and sensitivity of this type of oyster, the cultivation of these pearls is far more challenging, thereby making them more costly.
South Sea Golden Pearls
The Austrialia, Philippines and Indonesia are the habitats of the South Sea Gold Pearls, formed by gold oysters. Ranging in diameter from 9 to 16mm. The majority of these pearls exhibit a champagne color, while a minority are gold, which is a true indicator of their value.
Tahitian Pearls
Widely known as black pearls globally, the pearls in Tahiti are native to the remote lagoons of French Polynesia in the South Pacific, where the black-lipped oyster is found. This mollusk secretes a black nacreous substance. The average size ranges from 8 to 16 mm in diameter, with shapes including round, pear, and even circular. The beauty of Tahitian Black Pearls lies in the nature of their rich color based on the black key tone. Among them, the most admired are peacock green and dark blue, and they change their metal-like luster when rotated. No other dyed pearls can match this. This explains the rarity and the highly prestigious status that has crowned Tahitian Black Pearls as the Queen of Pearls.
Keshi Pearl
Keshi pearls have several distinctive characteristics when compared to other pearls:
Firstly, they are non-nucleated. This means they are formed without an artificial nucleus, unlike many other cultured pearls.
Secondly, being composed entirely of nacre gives Keshi pearls an outstanding luster and surface quality. Their shine is often more intense and brilliant than that of even the highest-quality cultured pearls.
Another characteristic is their irregular shape. While some Keshi pearls may approach a more traditional shape, they are typically less uniform and symmetrical compared to many other pearls.
In terms of size, Keshi pearls can vary widely but are often smaller than some of the larger South Sea or Tahitian pearls.
Finally, their formation as by-products of the pearl culturing process makes them relatively rare and unique in the pearl market.
FAQs
1. Are your pearls real?
All our pearls are 100% natural and authentic. We do not sell fake or imitation pearls.
2. How to distinguish real and fake pearls?
Rub two pearls against each other, real pearls will feel a slight 'gritty' texture, as if you are rubbing sand. Fake pearls will feel perfectly smooth.
3. Real pearls are only rarely “perfect”. Usually, they’ll have small blemishes or irregularities in their shape. Fake or imitation pearls are almost always “too perfect” that show no indents or imperfections. While perfectly round real pearls are rare but possible, a necklace will almost never be made only from these types of pearls. A necklace made from pearls that all seem to be exactly the same smooth, round shape is almost certainly a fake.
Good-quality pearls are often prized for their overtones - the subtle color that is visible on their outer surface when light hits them. Fake pearls will usually not have this overtone effect, which is tricky to duplicate.
4. How long can my pearls last?
High quality freshwater and Akoya pearls should last a lifetime if well cared for.
South Sea and Tahitian pearls have exceptionally thick nacre and will last generations.
