Commonly known as the dragon tree, Dracaena draco features a distinctive, thick trunk that can grow up to 15 meters (49 feet) tall, with a diameter of about 1 meter (3 feet). The trunk is often swollen at the base, giving it a unique silhouette. At the top, it boasts a dense crown of sword-shaped, leathery leaves that can reach lengths of up to 1 meter (3 feet). The leaves are typically dark green, with a bluish tint, and have a waxy surface that helps reduce water loss.

Native to the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, and parts of Morocco, the dragon tree thrives in subtropical to tropical climates, preferring well-drained, sandy soils and full sun exposure. It exhibits moderate drought resistance, making it suitable for xeriscaping and low-water gardens. Dracaena draco can tolerate temperatures as low as -5°C (23°F) and shows good resilience to wind, enhancing its adaptability in various environments.
