straggler daisy, horseherb (Calyptocarpus vialis)—U.S. native groundcover

Size: 6-12" tall by 2-6' wide

Site: part shade to sun

USDA Hardiness Zones: 7-11

To Propagate: Seed requires no pretreatment but germination may take between 2-8 weeks or more with sporadic germination over time.

A rarely offered native U.S. groundcover. Though straggler daisy will tolerate part sun it is most valuable as a groundcover under the shade of trees. Quite drought and shade tolerant this is an excellent groundcover for those dry shady areas under trees where you cannot get grass to grow. Straggler daisy can also be used as a light-traffic lawn substitute. Spreads by runners. Can be started virtually anytime in Texas and other mild-winter areas.
