Classic View-Master Model C Stereoscope Viewer, Circa Late 1940's Bakelite Body, Original Box, 10 Scenic Reels, Redwoods, Yosemite, Carlsbad. Here is a very nice, near mint, classic Sawyers View-Master Model C Stereoscope Viewer. This was the late 1940's first generation of the Bakelite body style that became View-Master's standard for decades to come. In the Original Box with 10 "Scenic Wonder" Kodachrome Reels including The Redwoods, Trees of Mystery, Yosemite, Carlsbad Caverns, Oregon Caves, and my all time favorite the recently dissembled and disseminated "Peterson's Rock Garden" which was located North of Redmond, Oregon (and was a tripper's delight). Both the viewer and reels are in excellent condition
I grew up less than a 1/2 mile from this plant and will note that Sawyers was a local (to Portland, Oregon) success story and was held in high esteem until the EPA started investigating its surrounds when it was sold to Mattel in the late 90's. ''The Discovery? The ground water (including the company's drinking water) was deeply toxic with the trichloroethylene (TCE) and the plant was shut down in 2001. Many lawsuits and many payouts for generations of workers.... .

Let's face it: the 30's came in with a whimper and went out (by way of the 40's) with quite a bang. And thus the Boomers were upon the Earth. The number of births in the US nearly doubled during this time and I am one of them who popped out at the very beginning of that Boom.
Naturally, this period is my collecting sweet spot and I want almost everything I see from those times!!! It doesn't matter if it is curated in a vintage shop's window or a crammed into a trashcan, I want it: everything leading into the Mid-Century is a Rosebud to me.
Interestingly, my relatives laughingly blamed Dr. Spock and his 1942 "Baby Book" for all that came next.... Little did they know that he would end up an active anti-war personality and was actually tried, convicted, and sentenced to federal prison for conspiracy issues! But, I digress....
