Vintage Classics Illustrated issue (#62) featuring two of Bret Harte's most beloved stories: "The Luck of Roaring Camp," and "The Outcasts of Poker Flats." To CI's credit both of these stories have been rendered using much of Harte's original prose and styling; they are a pleasure to read for that alone. The illustrations by Henry Kiefer both set the scene and add to the drama that Harte was so successful at creating with his pen. Spoiler Alert: Everyone Dies!
You probably read these tales in Junior High back in the day and will be flooded with memories when you re-read them today. And, if you've got kiddos, these are the kinds of morality tales that make bedtime reading special and help put the fear of God into them. Or, maybe you are a Sociology teacher and need some graphic help in your classroom to illustrate how and why humans created society and what Durkheim meant when he said that "deviance is both normal and necessary" for society to exist.
This 48 page comic is in pretty good condition with an intact spine, fairly good color, and no odors. There is some fading and dog-earing present. 1964 printing of original 1950's edition.
