Chateau de la Grifferaie is in the village of Echemire in the commune of Bauge-en Anjou, Maine-et-Loire. See 1845 reference for attribution of this rose to L. Legris, who was the proprietor of the Chateau and a rose lover. Earliest mention of a "De Grille" as breeder is in 1886. This is possibly an error of transcription, as there is a Rue de la Grille in Bauge.
