Primitive Mexico Folk Art Animal God Icon Pig Cow Devil God GORK
Vintage Folk Art from Mexico. The body is leather that has been covered in such thick paint that it is stiffened, but still flexible. The head apparently is some kind of a carved-out shell. And, who knows the horns are made of? 16" tall and about 9" wide.
I am not sure what it is, but when I found him I had a really hard time getting out of the Goodwill because other shoppers kept trying to take him away from me! They just couldn't keep their hands off him..... So, I know he's attractive, but I have no idea what he is, or who he represents. Believe me, I've received lots of opinions about him, but none that were decisive in my opinion. For some reason, to me, he looks like a Pig God, but why then the horns? So, maybe he's a Cow God, but why does he have legs, feet, arms and hands? Well, if you have an idea, let me know… Or better yet, why not put him in your cart and take him home with you to figure it out?

While working at the psychiatric crisis unit of a local hospital I got to see a lot of Human Nature, some of which defied understanding. The nurses had a shorthand for this condition: GORK, which translated to "God Only Really Knows." And, really, when it comes down to understanding anything, ain't that the truth at the bottom of everything? The more we know, the more we know we don't know! I've always loved GORK in and around my home so it is a no-brainer to have some here in my shop for you to peruse. Take a look around, but just be careful where you step....
