Description
Delightful scrapbook of Mary King Collings of Manchester in Adams County, Ohio of her graduation of June 26th 1913. In this scrapbook there are some wonderful original photographs of her classmates including one African-American young lady. In addition there is an Alumni dinner program dated June 27th 1913 for past graduates of Manchester (OH) High School. There are a couple of newspaper clippings where Mary is giving a oratory speech to her classmates called the “The Model of the Mind” She states the little boy longs for a time he can pitch like Christy Mathewson while the little girl admires a young lady who sees and calls lovely”. A charming and beautiful little scrapbook from an America that seems centuries removed.
This scrapbook is part of an important and extensive archive associated with the Collings/Kirker family of Adams Co., Ohio that I have listed in my shop. The Archive over-all consists of materials from the Kirker-Collings-Gibson family of Adams Co., Ohio, from just before statehood to the end of the 20th century. Two of the progenitors of this clan are James R. Gibson and his wife, Martha King Gibson.
