Description
This fine cabinet card photograph is one of several from the Reed family that I purchased at a book store recently in Norway, Maine in Oxford County. This particular portrait shows Mr. Penas Reed with a rather interesting biographical inscription on the verso by a family member. Penas according to the inscription kept a store in Thomaston, Maine before 1870 and also served as a prison guard at the state prison that once was located there. The inscription further states he went to Nobleboro, Maine in Lincoln County to take care of his father. The entire length of the inscription is shown in the images provided.
