This is a summer weight (or hot weather) pair of woodland ripstop BDU pants in size Small/X-Long. They are in NOS, unissued condition. They still have the original CIF issue tag.
The hot weather combat uniform was developed out of the original dissatisfaction with the heavyweight twill BDU's. They were meant to mirror the comfort and versatility of the original jungle fatigues. Originally they were made of 100% cotton ripstop, but in the early 1990's this was replaced with the 50% cotton, 50% nylon "NYCO" (of which this is an example). Oddly enough, the decision to forego the 100% cotton design in favor of the cotton nylon blend was based almost entirely on the durability of the uniforms and the cost associated with replacing them.
The summer weight uniforms were by far the preferred BDU's among field soldiers in both summer and winter. These are perfect for hiking, paintball or chores.
