Rare, High Quality Spanish Knight's Helmet, Diego Velazquez. The overall all steel helmet is richly decorated in high relief floral scrolls, the sides of the crest with ornate panoplies of arms; the vented top visor with grotesque face amid floral scrolls; lower visor with griffins and scrolls. The sides with allegorical or historical vignettes. The lower chin element is graced with highly detailed arms panoplies. The quality of work and the fine relief detail make this helmet a fine display item.
The same helmet is on display at the home of Satiago de Cuba, Casa Diego Vealzquez who was active in 1511 under the orders of Diego Columbus, direct descendent of Christopher Columbus.
