A late 18th / early 19th century Indo-Persian Dhal shield. Convex lacquered animal hide form, with applied bronze roundels. Original padded section to the inside, with 4 iron rings for holding straps. There is also a small hole near to lip of the Dhal, but it’s uncertain whether this was put there for hanging the item, or for the attachment of a strap. Good overall shape and form, with age related wear. The lacquered finish has an overall crackled appearance, with some flaking and losses.
