American Bittersweet or Celastrus scandens is a beautiful deciduous perennial vine native to the US. In June clusters of whitish flowers appear on new growth followed by orange three lobed capsules that open in Autumn to reveal bright orange-red berries which hang on through Winter. The berries are a food source for song birds, grouse, pheasant, bobwhite, squirrels and foxes.

Well behaved 15 foot vines will climb a fence or trellis, a telephone pole or any available support. Prune vines in late Winter or early Spring. Requires a male and a female plant to produce fruit.
