Toyo Kogyo Today (Mazda), 1980 Collectable Illustrated Hardcover Book, made in Japan. English and Japanese, featuring the Mazda RX-7, 626, GLC. RARE Book!
This is a very rare, collectable book, from Toyo Kogyo Co. which makes Mazda
vehicles. It's from 1980 and was a gift book from Toyo Kogyo to investors and
other parties, celebrating it's then 60th Anniversary in 1980 (1920-1980). It was printed in
Japan, and the text is in both Japanese and English. There are many artistic
type photos, all in B&W, of the plant operations, the factory, the cars
produced and the surrounding area in the city of Hiroshima.
The models I can easily
identify in the photos are the 1st generation RX7, the 626
sedan, and the 323 hatchback (which would've been called the Mada GLC in the USA at the
time).
This book is a hardcover, with no dust jacket (I don't think it ever
had one) and it's in overall very good condition. There's some general wear, scuffs, and marks on the covers, but the pages are actually close to like new, with no rips or tears or writing.
The covers are a very shiny silver, which is why you see everything reflected a bit in the photos. The photographs inside are great, and include the cars, employees working on engines
(both 4 cylinder types and the 12A rotary used in the RX7), the factory inside
and out, the surrounding landscape, and more.
There is a
small certificate inside the front cover, showing that this was a gift to
investors from Mazda, plus a message from the President of Toyo
Kogyo at the time, Yoshiki Yamasaki, plus a timeline history of the company from 1920 to 1980 as well.
The original Mazda RX-7 is
probably my all time favorite car, and this book shows it being built when it
was a brand new model, and this is a great collectable for someone else who loves
Mazda cars.
