PICTURES OF THE WEEK: In a half-century of photographing the men's NCAA basketball tournament, Rich Clarkson has captured some of the championship's finest moments--especially those that came after the final buzzer. Clarkson discovered his life's work in 1952 as a University of Kansas freshman, when he snapped--with a toaster-sized Speed Graphic camera--the victorious moments of the Jayhawks' NCAA tournament win. Since then, the photographer, now 72, has chronicled 48 more finals. His favorite? The stirring 1966 championship (upper left corner), when tiny Texas Western's all-black starting five routed heavily favored Kentucky. This weekend's Final Four marks Clarkson's fiftieth trip to what he calls "the best sports event in the country." PHOTOGRAPHS BY RICH CLARKSON.

DEPARTMENTS:
