About the artist:
"Fan-favorite" isn't just an empty phrase when it comes to the phenomenal comics artist George Pérez (1954-2022). With his amazing attention to detail, his ability to not only cram as many characters as possible into any given page but to make it work and work beautifully, Pérez is truly one of the towering giants of comic art.
Pérez began his amazing career in 1974 with a 2-page spread in Astonishing Tales #25. Since that time he as helped revolutionize and revitalize several characters and titles, including The Teen Titans (also co-creating several of the new members with writer Marv Wolfman), Wonder Woman, The Avengers, and the entire DC Universe itself in the landmark Crisis on Infinite Earths and its companion-piece, the History of the DC Universe. Most recently, he again helped redefine DC through Infinite Crisis and the relaunch of Superman under DC's New 52.
In addition to ground-breaking events, Pérez has provided fantastic work for many other titles including The Justice League of America, The Infinity Gauntlet, The Hulk: Future Imperfect, Batman,The X-Men, Superman, The Fantastic Four, JLA/Avengers, and too many others to list here.
Recognized by industry professionals as well as fans, Pérez has won multiple awards and honors, including three Eagle Awards (one along with Jim Shooter, Sal Buscema, and David Wenzel) for Best Continued Story on The Avengers, one for Best Cover for Avengers #185, and one for Favorite Artist (penciller) in 1986. He won the Inkpot Award in 1983 and his work along with Marv Wolfman on Crisis on Infinite Earths won the 1985 and 1986 Jack Kirby Awards for Best Finite Series. He has also won numerous Comic Buyer's Guide Fan Awards. In 1985, DC Comics included Pérez as an honoree among the most influential artists in the company's 50th anniversary publication Fifty Who Made DC Great.
