The Dave Dawson aviation stories were classics of the WWII era. American Dave Dawson, with his English pal Freddy Farmer, roamed the skies throughout the world defeating the evil forces of Germany, Italy, and Japan. From the list of titles in the front of book, it is indicated this is an early printing of the 12th title in the series.

Robert Sidney Bowen, Jr. (1900–1977) was a World War I aviator, newspaper journalist, magazine editor and author who was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and died in Honolulu, Hawaii, at the age of 76. He is best known for his boys' series books written during World War II, the Dave Dawson War Adventure Series and the Red Randall Series. He also worked under the name R. Sidney Bowen and under the pseudonym James Robert Richard.

The Crown Publishers approached Mr. Bowen about developing this series and they published the 1st Editions. They had an arrangement with Saalfield to allow them to produce an inexpensive version which is more commonly found. This copy was published b Saalfield.

Hardcover has navy cloth boards with black lettering on front and spine, but no DJ. Interior is tight, clean and unmarked. Gutters torn but repaired to functionality. Pages fragile and discolored. Still is remarkably fine shape for an 80 year old child's book.
