John Buchan was Governor-General of Canada from 1935 until his death in 1940. Has frontispiece portrait of Lord Tweedsmuir, a prolific literary author as well as politician. His most noted literary work was "The Thirty-Nine Steps." He finished this unique autobiography only a week before his death. vii + 336.
The frontispiece sepia portrait photograph of Lord Tweedsmuir was taken by Yousuf Karsh (1908 – 2002), a Canadian-Armenian photographer known for his portraits of notable individuals. Karsh has been described as one of the greatest portrait photographers of the 20th century.
This book also happened to be one of President John F. Kennedy's favorite books. Now out of print.
Hardcover has beige tweed cloth covers with brown lettering on spine and front in a near good dust jacket. Unclipped jacket is missing chips with wear at exposed edges and creases, integrity stabilized with tape and protected in a Brodart cover. POS on ffep with 1943 date. Interior is tight, clean with occasional sentences bracketed within text. This does not affect legibility.
