Vintage Neo-Classical Style 24" Cast Bronze Artifact Door Pull, Decorative Architectural Flourish, or What? Here is an interesting decorative bronze artifact most likely from the late 1800s to early 1900s with possible Neo-Classical design elements. It is 24" in length and varies from 1 1/2" to 1" in width. There is one main center screw hole, but also six more holes that are available for mounting (but need to be punched out). It is a bit janky and looks like it has been through its fair share of trial and tribulations to give it its unique character and patina. At first I thought this may have been a drawer or door pull, but it seems to be more of an architectural flourish of some kind. It could certainly be used as a pull, but also would be excellent repurposed as you might see fit: I keep looking at it and it reminds me of a scepter for some reason, so maybe it could be used as a prop! It is one of those things that you'll just have to figure out what it's for and then go with it. It is certainly a cool item nonetheless.
Industrial remainders, architectural salvage, post-modern junk, found sculpture, relics, wreckage, rubble, debris, flotsam, refuse, shambles, decayed, leftover, rescued, liberated, scrap, verde gris, patina, rust, corrosion, tarnish, deteriorated, decomposed, deconstructed, worn down and out....
While working at the psychiatric crisis unit of a local hospital I got to see a lot of Human Nature, some of which defied understanding. The nurses had a shorthand for this condition: GORKWhich translated to "God Only Really Knows." And, really, when it comes down to understanding anything, ain't that the truth at the bottom of everything? The more we know, the more we know we don't know! I've always loved GORK in and around my home so it is a no-brainer to have some here in my shop for you to peruse. Take a look around, but just be careful where you step....
