1960-61 Oregon Driver's Manual, From a Simpler Time (Except for Parallel Parking of which you were required demonstrate mastery). Basic Rule Speed Limit, Hand Signals, U-Turns, How to Shoot Near Highways. This is the one I used to study for my first license. I took the test in a 3-on-the-floor Valiant Slant-Six and flunked the first go around because I was riding the clutch! Second time was a go after some instructions from my big brother. In Oregon we had the "Basic Rule Speed Limit" which was basically no limit on speed as long as you felt in control of the car. We used hand signals for turns and did U-Turns whenever and where ever. Insurance? Not required.... but posting a bond if caught in an accident. I see that "shooting a gun across a highway" was prohibited, and horses always had the right of way, though bikes didn't. I'm at the point in my life now where I hardly drive at all any longer and I don't miss it. 50 page 4" X 6" paperback pocketbook. Excellent condition, but for age related fading.

I entered College in 1965 and it doesn't get any more "Sixties" than that. As today is the era of technology and instant connection, the 60's were an era of social consciousness and mind expansion. Interestingly, when asked which era people would like to relive the 60's Summer of Love is the most popular destination. But, it's not coming back, and it doesn't have to, because it already thoroughly informs and drives the culture we live in today! So, just remember the next time you are tempted to say "Okay, Boomer..." to someone who looks old that the 60's were our gift to all you wanna-be hippies and hipsters out there!
