A Scarce & Very Collectable French WWI Medal.
French Red Cross Long Service Medal
"Societe Francaise De Secours aux Blesses Militaires".
Translation - "French Society for Relief of Wounded Soldiers"
A very desirable and original full size silver gilt bronze medal measuring 1 inch across by 2 inches in height and in very fine condition. It is complete with original ribbon which is in very good condition.
The medal was originally instituted in 1866 by the amalgamation of two similar, Red Cross type societies. ( Hence the two dates on the reverse of the medal). The medal was issued for long service in the society. They were issued up to the end of the first war (1918). I would think that this is a WWI issue. Although there is a plaque on the reverse where the recipients name can be inscribed, I have yet to see one that has been named.
A very collectable medal that would compliment any collection and fully guaranteed genuine & authentic.
