This book, covering the remarkable events of those eighty-five years, was released as part of that celebration. But the history of the Club starts much earlier specifically 1889. Events beginning in 1889, and leading up to the founding of the Club in 1924, were essential factors in the history of Avalon and of the Club. This book, therefore, covers a span of 120 years. Events of those early years are fascinating, and simply inseparable from this history of the Club. Inside you will meet some unusual individuals who recognized the importance of a place where entire families could gather and have fun together. The Fun for Families theme started the Club, and it continues unabated today. You will find a full chapter of stories and photographs of the Movie-Star Era, when membership in CIYC appeared to have been a must-have privilege for actors and directors with, of course, their accompanying Starlets.

The challenges of the Depression and World War II are covered, as well as the challenges of storms and damages. And you will meet some strong men and women whose leadership guided the Club through good times and difficult times, always with the goal or maintaining the Fun for Families theme and protecting the structure and ambience of the Club.

On behalf of the Officers and Directors of CIYC and the CIYC Foundation, we hope you find this book interesting and useful.
