is the subject of the 1945 Royal Copenhagen Christmas Plate, the 38th plate in the series that began in 1908 and continues to this day. It features a small angel stopping to look at a Christmas rose, which has pushed its blossom up through the snow.
The design is by Richard Bocher, a collectable artist in his own right. It is embossed on Danish porcelain and hand painted in traditional Copenhagen blue under the glaze, approximate diameter 7.25 inches. The inscription includes the date 1945 and the word JUL -- the Danish word for CHRISTMAS (pronounced like the English work YULE). Pierced foot for hanging wire. Appropriately marked on the back, including the three wavy line trademark of Royal Copenhagen. World Wat II ended earlier in 1945 after six years of destruction and occupation, so production of this 1945 plate was extremely limited. Book Value (2004) was $600 to $800.
EXCELLENT CONDITION (no chips, cracks, or repairs), and FIRST QUALITY (no scratch through the trademark). An excellent example of one of the scarcest plates in the entire series.
