Alocasia Cuprea 'Red Secret' has extraordinary foliage that has a metallic sheen to it. Its red to purple leaves with dark, almost black markings look fabulously dramatic! It is definitely one of the most decorative houseplants around!
Also commonly called, the 'Mirror Plant' and 'Jewel Alocasia', this plant is native to tropical Borneo and Malaysia and can get up to one metre in height. This Alocasia stays compact, so it is very suitable for terrariums.
Over-watering, wet leaves, and soggy soil can cause to a variety of serious fungal infections. That is why you should allow your Alocasia Cuprea 'Red Secret' to fully dry between watering. Also, use a fast-draining potting mix and provide bright light and good ventilation.
Thick-leaved Alocasia are far less tolerant of moist soil than the other thinner leaf varieties. It will require less water during the winter when it’s dormant than in summer during active growth.
Light:
Put your Alocasia in a spot with bright indirect light.
Water:
While Alocasia are rather thirsty, too much water can cause root rot and ultimately lead to the death of your plant. This is why you should never let your Alocasia sit in water (e.g. standing water in the saucer). When the top 3cm of soil are thoroughly dry to the touch, it is safe to water again.
Please note:
Jewel Alocasia as are far less tolerant of constantly wet soil than the other, thinner-leafed Alocasia varieties. Be particularly careful not to overwater them!
