The Orange Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia nicolai) is a Rare Exotic Tropical Flowering Plant that is also known as the "Crane Flower". In Colder Areas up North in Cold Climates they can only be Grown Indoors during the Winters, but anywhere it doesn't drop below 65 F and they'll do Great Outside Year Round. 

Native to South Africa, the Bird of Paradise, (Strelitzia reginae), is a Tropical Evergreen Famous for its Exotic Spiky Flowers that Resemble a Crane's Beak and Head Plumage. The Plant Grows 3 to 5 Feet Tall with an Equal Spread in Dense Clumps of Attractive Waxy Banana-Like Leaves that Makes it a Lovely Ornamental Exotic Plant. A Healthy, Mature Plant can Produce Up to 36 Flowers Spikes Each Year. In Ideal Conditions, the Plants can Bloom Year-Round. It is Widely Grown, Including the Americas and Australia, Always doing Well in Warm Sunny Areas. It is a Common Plant in Southern California and is the Official Flower of the City of Los Angeles. It Makes an Outstanding Tropical Accent, Working Well in Formal Landscapes or more Casual Designs as well. Bird of Paradise Germination:

1) Knick the seed shells with a file or small knife and soak the seeds in lukewarm water for 3 days. Change water daily.

(2) Remove the bright orange tuft of hairs after you have soaked the seeds.

3) Use a heated propagator to keep a bottom heat of 85-90°F. This will help increase the germination rate and speed.

4) Seeds should be planted 1 Inch deep in moistened, high quality potting mix. Cover the pot with plastic to retain humidity and keep the soil moist. Uncover daily for a few minutes of fresh air. The seeds should germinate in one to three months if kept moist. Be patient as with any Tropical or Exotic, germination times are always erratic. Don't toss any early as they all have their own time as They're well worth your wait.

1) Rasque las cascaras de las semillas con una lima o un cuchillo pequeño y sumerja las semillas en agua tibia durante 3 días. Cambie el agua a diario.
