Marked 830 S for 83% solid silver which was Norway’s standard for sterling silver. Hallmarked by Thorvald Marthinson who began business in 1883 and whose company is best known for producing the medals for the 1952 and 1994 Summer Olympics.

The base is weighted and apparently not layered over in silver as you might find other weighted items. As other items by Marthinson are the same way, we assume this was intentional.

Total weight with base is 82.4 grams. The weighting is not much - probably at most 1/3 of the total weight of the base but regardless the maker and the history have more to do with the value than the weight.

This 5 inch tall case is not personalized or monogrammed. Really in very nice condition for its age which we estimate to be 1930s-1960s era.

Will ship USPS with tracking to winning buyer.
