Hard to decipher as part of the hallmarks have worn away so we are unable to verify a date but we do see the London hallmark, the maker’s mark (FH) and what is left of the lion passant purity mark.

To muddy the waters even further, Higgins used several different makers marks, the one in the rectangle being the earliest from 1817-1820 and we have included the best grouping we could find in the photos for comparison. There are also several other makers who used FH in a rectangle so unfortunately no way to be 100% positive but he was known for flatware and sugar tongs.

Tongs are extremely detailed and very ornate with grapes the theme. They measure just under 5 inches in length and weigh 41.8 grams.
