OX EYE SUNFLOWER. An easy to grow American Native Wildflower. Perennial. Also known as Early sunflower or False sunflower, not a true sunflower but a member of the Aster family. Heliopsis are great long-stemmed, long-lasting cut flowers, and this plant produces a lot of flowers. This plant produces a endless supply of 3" yellow flowers from early summer to late fall. Heliopsis is a perennial and can be divided after year 2. This strain forms a tall, busy shrub of dark green leaves with branching heads of gold/yellow 3" flowers and will get about 4' tall and 3' wide. Not picky about soil. Needs at least 6 hrs. of sun a day. Heliopsis will grow just about anywhere with steady water. There tough as nails and require very little care. Sow 3 or 4 seeds per plant, press into soil 1/4"deep, about 30" apart. Don't cover, needs light to germinate. Keep moist.
Germination 14-21 days.
Thin to 1 seedling (the best). Cut out unwanted seedlings with scissors.
Medium water. Light fertilizer.
Height 36 - 48" x 24 - 36" wide.
Flowers are Yellow. Blooms late summer through late fall.
