Vintage 1930s 1940s brooch
A highly unusual and unique American stringed musical instrument, the banjo.
Appears to be Bakelite, Lucite and more
Appx. 4" long
The "strings are "real" in that they are applied to the finished piece - see pics for detail.
The bridge floats along the top of the head - it is not glued down, and seems to be held in place only by the tension fo the strings,  I am unsure of the material of the bridge.  It is the color of wood but may be some other material.  I am unsure what the strings are actually made of.  The frets are accomplished by incising the black neck with horizontal lines. The pin in the back is of a typically inexpensive type.  It is not a safety clasp. The back of the head is incised with a decoration visible on the top of the head.

The piece is in good condition with signs of expected wear, and intact  The back underside of the neck has some scarring at the top, not visible when worn. There are no cracks, chips or stains of note anywhere
