Lotus Vine Flower, Coral Gem, Pelican Beak
Said to be extinct in its native Canary Islands, this rare and spectacular member of the Pea family captivates all who see it trailing over a “green roof” here at the nursery. Loaded with fiery 2” scarlet and gold “parrot beaks” over a long Spring to Fall season, the blooms are held upright and in bright contrast to the silvery-green needle-like trailing foliage. To 1’ tall and 2-3’ across, it’s gorgeous trailing over a wall or out of a container (5+ gal). Can be used as an exotic groundcover too, just make sure to provide excellent drainage and some fertility, and don’t let it dry out for best show. Evergreen, disease-free and deer resistant. Cut back by 1/3 to refresh if needed. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Easily grown as an annual.
