Vintage Original Watercolor Old likely a Mediterranean City
Labi is a name found mainly in Morocco, France and the Mediterranean countries but the tower in the background looks like an Orthodox church, Greek or Eastern European Mediterranean, in an old and hilly area, and could be as far north as Russia. Could be Italy or Croatia. Would appreciate any input.
Street Scene, Mid Century Watercolor.
Signed by what looks like Labi
14 3/4"wide x 18 3/4"tall frame with glass.
The painting is at least 8 1/2"tall x 12 1/4"tall and might be much larger I did not remove the backing to see.
I bought this in an antique store in Santa Barbara about 1981. The frame has it's original patina, matting is fairly white, and the watercolors are bright and crisp, the photos do not do the painting justice. The paper backing shows darkening from age.
The frame is very old, simple, with a nice patina it has always had since I owned it, no scratches were caused by our use.
