Although the common name includes "Nile" they are a native of South Africa and they are NOT a lily. In the sun belts of USA this plant has become a true staple. Once established there is zero maintenance. They need nothing truly. After years you can divide up and make more, but you are guaranteed big huge globe blooms every year for summer months. After the you are left with very tropical looking green plants. Most sites say full sun however, SUN OR HALF SUN OR LESS, IS JUST FINE. Very hardy and grows in any type of soil, even clay. They look great the entire year. If you are in a colder climate, use containers to move indoors for bright light. Also, most sites do NOT say blooms take a few years. But you will have them for many many more years. They like to be crowded, & roots become long finger-like bulbs to divide easily. Worth the wait for these beautiful blooming evergreens!
