One characteristic of L E Smith canister jars is that the lids and necks of the jars are always ground to fit together. L E Smith NEVER used plastic liners on their canister jars' lids! (There are a lot of imposter jars for sale, masquerading as Smith jars.)
This is a genuine L. E. Smith milk can canister jar. It's the smallest size, called the "one pound" jar. In this set it is designated as #7701. These milk can canisters were made between 1972-1982, and only were made in amber, blue, country brown, crystal, green, and yellow. This small canister jar is blue.
With the lid on it is 6 inches tall. It is 4 3/8 inches wide, and weighs 1 pound 10 ounces. The inner rim is ground, and part of the bottom of the outer rim of the lid is ground. The inner neck of the jar is ground and part of the top flat rim where the lid sits is ground. (These details are some of the signs of the superior quality of L. E. Smith canister jars.)
There are no chips or cracks in the jar. There is wear on the bottom of the jar. The lid has some tiny chips on the inner rim: the largest is about 2 mm wide; another is 1.5 mm wide. The rest are just nicks in the edge of the rim -- some are about 1 mm wide and the rest are minuscule, too small to measure. The lid looks good. The mini chips are hardly noticeable.
