Highly valued for it's herbal properties, yarrow is not only a useful plant, but a beautiful one as well. Long lasting, white clusters of blooms sit on top of long stems, and remain on this wildflower throughout the entire summer. This native perennial is not only resistant to drought, but is also tolerant of poor soil. The fern-like foliage has a strong, somewhat spicy aroma that persists when used in dried flower arrangements. Sometimes called 'Soldier's Woundwort, yarrow is know for it's ability to staunch blood, and in medieval times was often carried into battle. With a huge variety of different benefits, it is most commonly used today as an anti-inflammatory agent in colds and influenza, not to mention it's beauty in gardens and prairies! Care should be used in planting, as this wildflower can easily become invasive.
